What do you think about binding and overall guitar tone effect? Something doesn't seem so right about cutting a good chunk of contact wood all the way around the top of a guitar and then replacing it with plastic. Wouldn't sound transfer better through the original chunk of wood? Or maybe even wood binding? Just me overthinking again.

Interesting question. IMHO, the effect would be de minimis. In theory the mass of the body is lowered and sound could be brighter/louder, but plastic binding could also have a dampening effect. Wood bindings same situation depending on the type. In practice, I wouldn't know how the difference could be measured. I have two essentially matching 000-15SM guitars one with bindings one without. Both sound great but different; the one with cocobolo bindings is not appreciably better than the other.
