Gluing neck on 335 build. Not exactly straight

I glued my neck on my ES335 build. I had temporarily put on both E strings to make sure they ran down the neck correctly.It looked perfect. to I took the strings off and glued in the neck. After the glue dried I restrung the guitar and the strings are slightly off .Not by much ,but enough to bother me.Is there a way to align the neck up properly before gluing?I think maybe I should have loosened the tension on the strings but kept them on while the glue was drying.This way I could be sure of alignment. How would you guys glue the neck on.
