On my stewmac 000 kit I want to modify the neck. Is it possible and safe to remove the neck volute. Would it weaken the neck at the peghead?

Curious why you prefer to remove the volute? A volute makes perfect sense considering that it adds strength to the critical area where the headstock joins the neck.
