Gap between the top and side at the tail end

Post by Mitch »

I'm test fitting the top of a stew mac dred and noticed that at the tail end there is a 1/4" gap between the top and the side as shown in the picture:

The top is flexible enough and I can close the gap with minimal pressure. If I place the top rim on a flat board, the sides are square to the top. The rim sanding was done with a sanding stick as discussed in another recent post of mine.

Is it possible that the X bracing alone cannot create the perfect "dome", so a gap like this is expected? Is there some other geometry that I should be checking?

Thanks,

Mitch
