Angle on Stew Mac Neck block?

Post by Legolas »

Hi,

i just bought neck and tail blocks from Stew mac. I just noticed
that the bottom of the neck block is cut with an angle on it? Is that
normal?

Angled how? and on what face? I had a block from them and the top and back surfaces were square to the rim face. Although while building I end up with a 28' radius on the top and a 15' radius on the back surface.

Can you show a picture.

I put the Tail block next to it so you can see the difference...

That is weird. Is it taller than it needs to be so that it could be squared up? Also is it an allusion from the photo or is it also tapered along the length?

If the angle is on the bottom, it looks close to what one would have with the 15' radiused back. I would have expected to get squared off blocks from them other than the bevel they put on their heel blocks.

I thought they would send squared off blocks too. It seems odd. And that's
no illusion; it is tapered...

It is not like the block I got from them. I would give them a call and send it back. It is not what they show in their picture nor does it match the dimensions they state. It is just weird.

since you have an angle on the top and the back I don't see any problem. The top would have about 1 1/2 degree the bottom for the back about 5.

I just called them and they said that it's supposed to be there. They
directed me to their website and to look at the kit directions. I'll check
it when I get home. If it's to accommodate some sort of radius that
also confuses me because how would they know what radius i plan to
do on the sides? I was planning on doing 15' for the back and 28' for the
front.......

Yes, I looked and it is in their instructions for the kit. It would match the 15' radius. I get that they might include a serviced component in their kit. I am surprised that they send it when just ordering a neck block. How do they know what angle you want.

Thanks, John......yeah, I mean I'm not using the neck and tail blocks for a Stew Mac kit
so I'm surprised they don't offer both. Anyway, since I'm doing a 15' radius on the back,
everything is good in the world....
