Routing mishap. Need some advice please.

So I routed the binding channel on the back of my 000 and discovered I somehow routed a bit more where I started/stopped right at the back neck block area. Not sure how it happended but it did. The rest of it turned out pretty good using the KMC routing guide and a colt router with stewmac bearings.

So since the damage is done, what is a good way to address this gap/void. should I just mix some mahogany dust and glue and pack it in there after the binding is installed? It sucks that is is right there next to the heal cap area. Here is a pic for reference:

Is that the only thing I can do? It seems like another risk to create even more issues. Really not a fan of routing binding/perf channels obviously.

What method where you using to rout ?

There is always a chance for design enhancement when you make a mistake

Inlay a piece of whatever you were going to use for the heel cap. It will look like a design element.

Your guide bearing probably dipped into the mortise when you got to that point. I always rout my channels BEFORE I cut the mortise opening out.

I was using the colt router with KMC routing guide attachment, stewmac bearings/cutter. I really was trying to be careful and not sure how it happended. I apparently tilted the router upward when starting it.

I don't expect the guitar to be perfect by any means and am ok with a little "character" that is why i asked if filling in this small area with dust/glue would be a reasonable option. If not, I can look into buying somemore perfing for the back. Just match the front? or go with black to match the binding on back?

As pointed out be sure you check the bearing path location.

Not to add fuel to the fire.......but be sure you understand how the bearing/guide falls into the mortise where the neck is attached before you do anymore routing to add a purfling. Otherwise, you'll do the same thing again. I've done this exact thing on a guitar.

Yes I see how it happened. I will need to make some sort of filler plug to fit in the mortise so the roller and guide will ride over it.

I think I might try to make some sort of small decarative shape (maybe a contrasting wood) and inlay it in there instead of routing an entire purfling channel

What do you think of this approach?
