Acclimation question

Post by nkwak »

I'm stocking up parts for my second build which will be done mainly here in my basement. It's getting to be the dry time, of year but I'm able to get my storage area to around 40% RH. I just received 3 sitka bracing billets from LMI. How long should I let them sit before splitting them? FWIW I won't be starting until #1 is done. I'm shooting for February.

I gauge that by weight. I weigh them when they come in and check periodically, when the weight stabilizes they are acclimated and good to go but your RH must remain constant to +/- 5% or better or the point is moot.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....
