I have 000/dovetail neck from John/BC and using Cory's book. After gluing top and back, Cory says you rout with a laminate trimmer and end up with this (see photo).
So, when and how do you cut the rim away to expose the dovetail socket?

Re: When to rout rim from dovetail?
I don't think it matters so much when you do it. A few things to remember when you do this
A chamfer the edge of the sides at the dovetail block to allow the beck to bottom without being help off
B You can open the top before finish when you are setting the neck.
At that point you will know where the truss rod will clear also be sure you can access the truss rod adjustment nut through the sound hole , You may need to clear the Popsicle brace .
