Tim, I think that is a fine method. I like the micro mesh.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance again, but I've never used micro-mesh...

Is it something you can find at Lowes or Home Depot? Or do you buy it online? Does the brand name matter, or is micro-mesh the brand name?

What do you use as a lubricant/polish when buffing out?

It is a brand - don't remember where I got my kit but you'll find it online or maybe a local woodcraft if you've got it.

I use all of these grades: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=6461... I think you'll find them cheaper though.

I use warm water with a drop of detergent as lubricant.

Please be sure to let it FULLY cure before attempting any polishing.

Right now Woodcraft has the little pad kit of micromesh on sale; you get about 6 or eight grits for a little less than $12. A good way to try it out, and probably enough to do one guitar.

I use the Micro Mesh soft touch pads (2x2), not the sand paper. They aren't really sanding pads they are polishing pads and I believe were made originally for polishing airplane windshields back to clear. I can polish several guitars before they wear out. I use water and a drop (only a drop) of soap detergent to lub as I polish. It's great for a quick polish on a customers guitar that is brought in for repair ( I start about half way up the grits), it's my little extra and you'd be amazed at how they react when they get it back a whole lot shinier than when they left it.
