Unfortunately, No ACE hardware in my area, and the local Aaron brothers art supplies closed down a couple fo months ago. But i'll try the local office depot...

Might as well pick up a thickness sander, a fox bending machine, a spray booth and all equipment necessary for finishing while you're out shopping! :-)

How about chalk? It can be shaped like a pencil to draw a sharp line.....

Chuck, I picked up 20 of them on eBay a few years ago for about 5 bucks and 5 bucks shipping. BTW, I find it best for me to sharpen 2 flat sides on sandpaper as the white 'leads' have a tendency to break easily when sharpened in the conventional way or are too long. Another method would be to use a marking knife, run some chalk on the mark, then rub the chalk dust a bit into the scratch from the knife.
