1st build delay

Post by   »

Received my Blues Creek 000 kit yesterday.
Unfortunately, my shop humidity level is floating between 55% and 60%. So should I hold up on doing anything with the kit or are there tasks that can be done even in the somewhat moist environment?

You can also assemble the rim now. Don't do anything with the top or back until humidity is about 40-45%. Low humidity is better than high. I brace my plates in January and get them glued on by February so I know RH is low.

Bought just about everything I think I'll need for a home made go-bar. Hardware and 3/16" fiberglass rods, rubber tips, etc cost me $36. I have plenty of scrap wood lying around for the top and bottom of the go-bar. In fact, I have a bunch of smaller scrap pieces of T&G red oak flooring that should do the job nicely once glued up.

Downloaded and printed the Pick Guardian neck gauge drawings and will start up on my 16" radius fretboard sander.

Tony, when you say "assemble the rim" do you mean glue the head and tail blocks to the sides and glue up the top and back kerfing?

Thats what he means, Tommy, and exactly what I was thinking. This is a great time to get your topoling going, if you have to build any, but you can also start working on your rim. No real reason not too.

So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

Are necks also dependent on atmospheric conditions?
Can one start by doing some neck/fretboard work while waiting for favorable RH?

"ALL" wood reacts to atmospheric conditions. There are many variables (too many to list) that affect how much or how little.

Is that a "no" on starting on the neck with RH in the 60es?

If doing the rim is ok, I should think neck would be rather safe as well?

Well said John, planning, imagining, daydreaming, wishing, etc... is half the fun!
