Hey Gerry, I never used it on top of shallac, 24 hours is not too long for the finish that I used (Lacquer) but it might be an issue with shellac. Perhaps letting the shellac cure for a few days longer might help but I would really someone that has some experience with this to chime in. I'm not an expert and I don't want to give you a bum steer!
