I use fiberglass rods from intothewind.com. Don't remember the thickness of mine (I'll check when I'm in the shop later) but today's price for one that's 1/8"x48" is $5.50. It makes two rods, so $2.75 each. They have the endcaps too at $.20 ea.
There are several other suppliers that are cheaper. I just did a quick search and found https://www.flymarketkites.com/ where the 1/8"x48" are $2.40 ea. Just put "kitemaking supplies" in your search engine.

Has anyone tried using metal insulation stays? In case you don't know what they are...they're metal, spring steel wires with somewhat sharp points on both ends and are used to wedge between two floor joists to hold up fiberglass batt insulation.......
This is a great thread, thanks for all the great information.
Welcome to the Forum Dogg.
I found these metal insulation stays at lowes.com.
$16.50 for 100, 23.5 " long, 13 gauge carbon steel spring wire. I like:

Pretty good price on a 33 foot fiberglass rod from HF too.
