Mine all had shut off features too, but it won't stop an old battery from leaking if left in the caliper. So, I've gotten in the habit of removing batteries from my small electronics before storing them.

Guess I'm just unlucky. I have 3 of them, from different suppliers, hanging on various tools currently. I need to measure frequently and can't be searching for the caliper or changing batteries. All 3 have less than 2 month old batteries, and all 3 are dead. Like I said previously, I've thrown away several. Guess at least they are a tax write-off!
