This is a small block plane, 1" iron. Myrtle and Lignum Vitae.
Fun to make and they work really well. This one is going with me to India in 5 weeks to be given as a gift.

Nice looking plane in a good size. Where did you get the LV?

Ed we have a nice wood store in a neighboring town that carries a wide variety of domestic and exotics. I happened on a piece 3" x 3" x 24" long for $50 about 5 years ago. I thought I'd try it for fretboard but later found out it made perfect plane soles.

Did you do something special to glue the Lignum? I know sometimes Lignum soles are joined with a weird "keyed" joint and I was under the impression that it was because it doesn't glue too easy.

I just use Titebond to glue the blanks up. Never had one separate yet.

I am in Goa, India now and have this plane with me. I'll give the plane to my son in law on Monday. He is recently starting doing some wood working, hope he likes it. I also have a Buck Bros #4 plane for him, got it new at the flea market for $12. Not the greatest, but very good by Indian tool standards.
