Re: Neck shape patterns
Got to the place to do another layer of bondo for my neck profile template. The picture shows a wrinkled wavy surface. This is because the Bondo reacts with the thick plastic. It causes it to swell and wrinkle, imprinting it into the bondo. Maybe aluminum foil is a better barrier between the guitar neck and the bondo? The plastic I used was the thick bagging plastic that came in a StewMac shipment, cut into strips.

There is also heat mold-able plastic. One brand is InstaMorph, available on Amazon.

These are useful and clean to use. I would think that they would make a good pattern. They also come in beads and sheets. I'm buying the sheets to mold into cauls:

Re: Neck shape patterns
John, in reference to the CNC profile attachment that you posted, do the measurements include or exclude the fretboard thickness?

Re: Neck shape patterns
Thanks John. I figured it was without the fretboard, but I wanted to make sure. I'm going to stick the attachment in photoshop and manipulate each pattern so it'll print out with the dimensions given. I can make gauges from that.
