Band Saw Recommendation?

Post by twenty2late »

So...I have a $99 band saw that I got from Lowes....and it is horrible! Right now, I'm trying to cut neck profiles, and it just isn't working. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a band saw that has enough power to cut thick wood, but that doesn't break the bank? Lowes has the Porter Cable 13.6"/10 amp band saw for $450. Is that a good tool? Thanks.

You can get a 14" Delta on craigslist for about $400 or so if you are patient. Cool thing about the Delta is that there are 50 years of accessories that have been made for it, including a 6 inch riser that increases the throat height for re-sawing. If you are just doing re-sawing occasionally, then even the 1-1/2 horsepower version is fine - take your time.

POWERMATIC PWS14
This one ( mine) has a 6" riser and mobile base.
I paid about $1k new, when I had the money.
Buy used if you're on a budget.
I love my saw.

I agree with Ruby. The 14" Delta has always been on my list. "Laguna bandsaws" are well known as well but not sure if they are still manufactured in Italy. They have some very nice badsaws but are priced higher.
