"Nut slotting saw rods"

Post by MaineGeezer »

I got some of these http://www.ubbcentral.com/store/item/ge ... 80112.html .

I figured out what those "nut slotting saw rods" are, but only after I spent 16 bucks for Geetrar Gizmo's set of six. They are actually oxy-acetylene torch tip cleaners. You can buy a wider-range set of 12 or so for $3.97 from Home Depot http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lincoln-Elec ... p+cleaners .

They do work, though certainly not as well as StewMac's $150 set of proper nut files http://www.stewmac.com/Luthier_Tools/Ty ... Files.html . They are, however, $146 cheaper if you get the Home Depot version.

never had luck with them , that set is a touch clean out set.

The set from Stew mac that I saw was used with a saw and worked very well. In fact Martin is using them. I have the decimal set of nut files from LMII. I have learned that when your in this as a business the tools are investments as they help with time management .
My first set of nut files were made from notching shim stock from where I worked. The only problem is the steel wasn't hardened and the didn't hold up.
I bet is you can get a way to make a small holder for them the things may work better. Your creative Maingeezer let me see what you can do.
I know you can figure this out to make them work better.
