I just purchased a McMaster Carr heating blanket. Can I control the heat with a "rheostat" or does it require a thermostat?
thanks

You need a power supply for each blanket, but you can be the thermostat. Put a thermometer on the blanket, and when it gets to the desired temperature, turn off the power supply. When the temperature drops, turn it on again. That's what the luthier I'm getting instruction from does. It's not all that difficult, since the total heating time you need to worry about is only a few minutes.

It's about the cheapest way out.

I think Carter has a couple of these http://www.mcmaster.com/#heater-temperature-controls/=116vjv7 but he acts as the thermostat.
