rosette router

I just purchased Mr. Wells rosette cutter jig. Apparently you can adapt it to any laminate trimmer by drilling the holes for said router in the jig. My question: Is my Dewalt laminate trimmer good enough for this job, or should I upgrade to say...a Colt, PC, or the more expensive Ridgid...? I figure if I'm, going to drill holes in this thing, I might as well have a router I can stick with.

I don't know a whole lot about routers, but I have to say, for flush cutting the Dewalt has been a joy to use....

Dewalt makes very good tools. I use several of their larger routers. I don't have a Dewalt laminate trimmer but, based on their other tools, I suspect the laminate trimmer is a quality tool. I use the Porter Cable 310's which Porter Cable no longer sells. However, I have heard good things about the Dewalt and the Ridgid trimmers. Good Luck!

I had to agree that dewalt is a good router as is Makita

The ridgid is great for the binding machine but if I had to make a choice here would be mine from the ones I had

good tool but touchy to adjust
Makita
Better than the Porter cable but a bit top heavy
Dewalt
Pretty much the same as the Porter cable
Bosche
Nice machine easy to adjust the base is rectangular not square easy to adjust
Ridgid
Nice unit easy to adjust also has a life time warranty with it.
Craftsman
Fair but not as good as they once were.

These are the ratings I would give them as I have used them personally. I hope others will join in and let us know what they think. I do like to make my jigs set up with a discreet router so I don't have to swap things around.

I ended up getting a Bosch Colt. The Dewalt is nice, and well made, but micro adjustments on it are awkward, and obviously you want easy, accurate adjustments with rosettes....

I have not used for a rosette, but I will tell you the Rigid had be the best small router I have owned and used. PC and Dewalt will be the same on the newer stuff. Before buying the Rigid I went back and forth on the Colt. I ended up opting for the life time warranty. I am very happy.

Ditto on the Rigid. It's the best of four brands that I have had over the last three years.

I had a Colt that was fine until shortly after the warranty ran out. The bearings then became noisy and sloppy. Out-of-warranty repair is prohibitive with this item. The cost to send it in for a look is nearly the same as the price of a new one. That seems to be the way of the world now. I suppose that there is a horror story out there for any tool so mine doesn't necessarily mean that everybody should boycott Bosch but the Rigid warranty looks pretty good when you've tossed a year-old Bosch in the trash can.
