Next step up from a Dremel?
Next step up from a Dremel?
My compressor is only a 4 gal. job so I can't go air tool.
Which brand/model, non pneumatic, will give me higher quality and less runout than a Dremel?
Will be used for not so intricate inlay work.

dremels are less than perfect and if are upgrading but don't want to go to air , your next upgrade would be foredom. They are a lot better and less runout than any dremel,

You can remove the bearing slop on the Dremel with a thin section of shrink tubing around the bearing. Frank Ford's idea here:

It's still a Dremel as far as power so take light passes.

That's a money saver. Thanks.
So now that you brought it up, I'm wondering, If I bought a new Foredom,
would I select higher torque/lower speed or lower torque/higher speed??

These Proxxon tools are much better than any Dremel I've seen (except the one I have that is about fifty years old and sill running fine):

Proxxon. Better motor, better bearings, more durable, etc. Unfortunately, the StewMac attachments like their Precision Router Base won't fit. I made a base for the Proxxon to use with SM's bridge slotting jig. See the Frets.net forum for more info:
