Kite supply companies online have fiberglass rods cheaper than the rods from stewmac. Home depot has driveway markers that are good for go-bar rods too.

I am not a huge fan of go bar decks, but if I did use one I'd by the rods from John Hall or make these designed by Kenny Hill

I think I've seen John Hall sell them on ebay far cheaper than stewmac or lmi. A kite store sounds like a good source, although I haven't flown a kite in years. Been told to go fly one or two!

Another option is a 4ft fiberglass driveway marker, cut in two pieces and capped with wire closet vinyl end caps.

I made a set similar to Kenny Hills' and it works just fine, though I prefer using cam clamps.

Look up Goodwind Kites, they come out about $.50 each if you by 48" length and get the plastisol end caps, cut them in half (or to your desired length). We are talking fiberglass here.

I must warn you that cutting fiberglass can be a health issue so use a mask , tape the area where you are cutting and watch for the fibers breaking free.
