Thickness sander vs thickness planer?

Post by Legolas »

Is there any difference between these? The planers
seem to come in smaller sizes and more affordable prices.

Yes, big differences. Especially for guitar building. A planer will not handle the thin pieces of wood we use for sides and backs, it will usually turn then into tooth picks. A sander will not work very well for making true square stock.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....

I got rid of my planer year ago. There are affordable sanders for the hobby guys. Avoid the low end brands .

I was looking at the Jet 10-20 Plus bench sander. Is that a good one?
