Are you saying that your planer won't adjust low enough to plane to 1/8th inch, so you use the wood to lift the workpiece up to the blades? I think My dewalt blades will get down below 1/8th. I won't be able to check, though, for a day or so. My recollection is that i have tried to plane to 1/8th or less, and the thickness setting isn't the problem. The workpiece shatters. HOwever, I just installed a digital thickness gauge i had left over from a DRO project on my mill, so i can measure thickness changes to about .0001 inch. In theory, anyhow. This is, after all, a planer, not a milling machine.
