I thought I'd shared these with you guys but I don't see a thread started.
I've made some hand planes. I think pics of one of them is missing.
Lots of fun to do, and pretty simple. A chisel blade makes the iron.
The little guy is my brace carving plane.

What is the trick to get the wood wedge to stay in place locking the blade into the depth you want? The wood plane I have keeps slipping.

Hey Darryl,
I believe the pin placement is pretty important, getting good pressure across the the mid section of the iron, also I'm using mahogany for the wedge which works better than the cocobolo I started out using. I think the softer wood "bites" in and holds better.

Is yours handmade, or a commercially made one?

Handmade by Stephen Boone, not me. Rosewood sides and maple or beech bottom.

I have a Boone convex bottom mini plane that works perfectly.

Looks like he used hog for the wedges. Is it the blade that is slipping?
I would say shorten the end of the wedge and sand away any indentation in the wedge so a new part of the wedge will make contact with the pin.

I have a large collection of plane. When my wood planes allowed the iron to move , there is a reason. A simple wedge can hold them well. It can be as easy as the wrong angle to a bad mate of the wedge.

I was going to say that my wedges have flat sides, not curved. Looks like the boone wedge is curved.
Maybe make your own wedge for it.

I talked with Stephan once and right off the bat he said send it to me and I'll replace it. So nothing but compliments for Stephen here! I am considering sending it to him, have him fix the wedge (or whatever it is causing this), and then buy a concave plane from him and have him return them together! I love this plane......just had troubles with it holding the iron at the height I set it (after 5-10 strokes the iron starts sliding up and stops cutting).
