I seem to remember someone here (Kevin S? Ken H) was using some buffing pads made for the ROS. I wanted to try it but never bought the things, now can't remember what they were.

My freakin arm is killing me!

TIA!

That was me Darren, Surbuf pads. You can get them at Woodcraft, Woodworkers Supply, or directly from their website. About $12 for two, and they worked great.

I was using some 3" buffing pads for an air driven sander:

I use 3M Cutting compund, and then MeGuiers #10 and 17, or go through the Fenders Guitar POlishing Compound Series, available at Guitar Center. I can't tell the difference in performance for either, and the Fender stuff is cheaper, and there is more of it.

I ordered the surbuf pads. I know I need to either spend more time leveling and building up coats or spend more time buffing. I'm trying this first...

So far I like the Novus polishes, we'll see how they work with these pads. They are small bottles though, and I'd like to be able to use something available locally, though all we have are ace/lowes/homeDs close.

Any decent auto store should have the MeGuiars auto polishes, or 3M, or a similar polishing compounds in various grits. Any of those will work...you are polishing a coating...on a car or a guitar.

Do you guys find it hard to control the speed thus the heat build up using that method? I have a pedestal buffer that works great but cost a whole lot more.

Not at all.....just keep it moving at an even pace, never let it sit on a spot. Also, keep the pad wet enough.
