Resaw question...

Post by Tspaxton »

Greetings from Cottage Grove Oregon!

I have just begun to resaw my own backs and side. My bandsaw has the capapcity of either 1500 SFPM Or 3000 SFPM. Does anyone know how to determine which speed to use? Is there a rule of thumb, like "soft -slow / hard-fast" or something? Thanks in advance for your help.

I like faster if you have the power to go through the wood . You also want a coarse 1 2/3 tooth per inch blade Figure about 6 to 10 teeth in the work. Then you need to find a match of feed rate to cut rate.
You will find out how after a few runs through the saw. Also thing about this , you want the heat to be in the chip not the work. Often people do go to slow. If the work feels warm you are going to slow.
