How to make one of these?
How to make one of these?
I saw this procedure on a PRS youtube presentation.
Looks like an acrylic template? It just lays on the top, locates the bracing consistently and keeps the braces from sliding around during glueup. PRS uses vacuum clamping but this looks like it would work with clamps as well.
I've got a new Ditson kit coming and want to work up one of these templates first. I've not worked with acrylic and wonder if there is anything to be aware of before I start.
Thanks

Re: How to make one of these?
If you can draw it up accurately in CAD you could have it cut by a laser cutter. Our local tap plastics stores offer this service.
Does it need to be acrylic? Seems like it would be easier to make it out of some 1/8" hardboard or something similar. Just have to be careful about getting glue on it.

Yeah, I was thinking hardwood, put clear packing tape to avoid gluing the whole mess together.

Dave, couldn't something like this get U where U want to go? They can be bought separately, the price is right and the quality and accuracy spot on.

I'm not sure. I already have one for 00, 000 and Ditson, Ken Cierp sends one along with the kits.
Thanks

John - and Bob - the picture shows a template that only goes around the outer edge, right? I'm not talking about the usual templates that are sold in many places - this one has no material lying on the top other than little 'fingers' that the braces fit into.
Are we talking about the same thing?
Thanks,
Dave
