I posted this in the fatso thread, but thought i'd cross post here for better visibility.

This is a link to an android app Tuner that I'm pretty fond of. I'd suggest any android phone or tablet owners check out the free version. It's easily as good or better than any other hand-held tuner I've used, and it has the added benefit of being on a device you already own and probably keep handy. And it's also FREE! And if you decide you like it, for $2 you can get the version that doesn't have the small ads at the top.

gStrings Description wrote:
Description
gStrings - a chromatic tuner for the guitar, violin, or any other instrument.
This is the ad supported version of gStrings (http://www.cohortor.org/gstrings), a chromatic tuner application measuring sound pitch and intensity.
It will let you tune any musical instrument (violin, viola, violoncello, bass, guitar, piano, wind instruments).
Features include:
1. orchestra tuning (shifting/redefining tone frequencies),
2. different temperaments (just, pythagorean, meantone, comma, etc.),
3. a variable range nonlinear scale,
4. microphone sensitivity setup,
5. pitch pipe,
and many more.
If you were looking for a guitar tuner, try it!

I don't own and have never owned an iPhone, so I can't be sure, but I would imagine there are probably some pretty good tuner apps in the Itunes store as well. Might be worth checking out.

Here is a screenie of the tuning screen..

Love that tuner, use it all the time. I have tried a couple others (can't remember which ones) but liked this one the best.

So, my big brother was playing guitar and I figured I'd try it too.

I use it on my android tablet and it does work very well. Second only to my Snark tuner which is superb.

I have a Blackberry with Guitar Studio, has a tuner and other applications like you can download songs with Tabs, pretty cool.

I have the Peterson IStroboSoft for the IPhone:

and like it pretty well.
I also have the physical Korg TM-40 for home and its metronome, but do like the Istrobosoft when I first tune up at home and wherever else I am.
What did the man say? "If you have 1 watch, you always know what time it is. If you have 2, you never know."
How many tuners do you have?

I have been using the Gibson app for a tuner but it dosen't work to well, I will give this a try. For the android there is a cool recording app that does 4 tracks and allows you to mix them down. I haven't got to play with it much but it's pretty cool, you need to plug in headphones to your phone to best use it. here is the link

A smartphone is not my thing, so no such a tuner. For intonationwork I use Peterson Strobosoft. Works fine for me.

In a groupsetting I use a Ibanez LU20. Simple, good and not expensive. Need no other.

One thing on using Gstrings - If you leave it in your phone's memory instead of moving it to your SD card, it can run faster and you are supposed to get better accuracy/sensitivity.
