Re: Guitar molds and frets
That is the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen. I feel compelled to pick it up.
Re: Guitar molds and frets
So if I read correctly, StewMac kit is 000 / 12 fret and the StewMac 000 body is 1" longer than an 0M. Correct?
Re: Guitar molds and frets
Yes --- and of course a slightly different shape overall.

Re: Guitar molds and frets
Ken Cierp had explained that to me once but I done forgot. I am still confused actually but things are getting clearer. Add to this, the hundreds of builders who use the terms 000 and OM interchangeably and I am lost! I will only build dreads. That will help me at least! LOL
Edited to add that I am talking about hobby builders who interchange the terms, not professional luthiers. I talk to hobbyists frequently. Pros generally shun me. Ok....that's not true either. I just talk to more hobby guys than pros.

Re: Guitar molds and frets
I just hope to get a decent handle on making my guitars sound good! One day when I branch out to models other than dreads and OMs, which I make with 14 frets clear and the Martin long scale, I will start to get the other model names right!
right!
P.S. Rick, thanks for not shunning me!
P.P.S. That's a joke kids. I am not shunned. Ok? Are you ignoring me? HEY! Pay attention! Why are you walking away? Damn. Shunned again.

Hey, all,
I found this article by Eric Schoenberg and Robert Green pretty informative. It has a nice explanation of the whys and wherefores of the OM design, such as WHY it is different than a 000.
http://www.om28.com/press/classicom.html
The information seems well researched, and heck, Mr. Schoenberg should be pretty knowledgeable, right? It seems that a lot of confusion could be avoided... correct me if I'm wrong, but it boils down to just two question:
1. Is it the longer or shorter scale?
2. Is it the longer or shorter body?
Unless it's the Norman Blake model, which I believe also has a larger sound hole.

Slowest builder on the forum. These things take time. Apparently.
Re: Guitar molds and frets
I am thinking perhaps? CF Martin should know just a little about their guitars.

Re: Guitar molds and frets
actually Ken the 000 14 fret shows as 15 inch on the lower bout but it is a bit over that . I don't know why they post that but in all it is what it is . I own a number of 000 14 frets and they are 15 3/16 and that patterns I have also show that for the molds that I make for them. I guess not all info is 100% .
Good to post so that people can see how the nomenclature is.
thanks again
