The Art of a Centerline
The Art of a Centerline
Striking an accurate center-line can be pretty frustrating. One place I can think of would be for the purpose of cutting a truss rod channel...
Measuring in the conventional way is more or less "Guessing" at best, there are too many variables.
There IS a better way IMHO, rather than try to explain it my self, even though the English is not as good as it could be, I'll let this link suffice....(:0)>} Ray

LuthierSuppliers.com ships one with the centerline finder they sell.

Good tip --- using that principle we have designed machines that "self center" regardless of blank size.

I really like that! I was thinking of finding a better way to find/mark center lines. I can get pretty close by measuring with a scale but pretty close is not very accurate especially since my eyes aren't what they used to be. Thanks for throwing us a bone!!!

(Smacks his forehead) Man that is so simple! I feel like an idiot for not thinking of it. No peanut gallery.....

That really is a cool simple solution. However, when making the jig, one will have to be precise in finding the center between the dowels to be precisely down the middle. I will be making myself a marking tool.

I can only find the "off center" line.
