Go Bar Rods - Bamboo Garden Stakes?
Has anyone used bamboo garden stakes (linked below) for go bars? I have a bunch laying around and was thinking of doing this instead of spending money.

If skyscrapers can be built with bamboo scaffolding and archery bows can be built with bamboo, a go-bar deck powered by bamboo seems to be well within reach. Let us know how it worked. :-)Meng1988 wrote:Has anyone used bamboo garden stakes (linked below) for go bars? I have a bunch laying around and was thinking of doing this instead of spending money.

Try 'em and see how they work. I suspect they may be too stiff to work well, bur that's just a guess.
Personally, I use these things (not these specifically, but ones like them):

Don't believe everything you know.

Tested it out today and no luck. The sticks ranged anywhere from 2 lbs to 8lbs, but most on the lower side.
Of the 18 I had, 2 broke, and only 5 were above 5 lbs.
Guess I'll spend the money and find some fiberglass rods.

Found some rods from Tap Plastics. 6’ lengths, cut to your preference for 2.65. Wound up getting 8 rods, cut to 24” (meaning 24 go bar rods). $36.50 after tax and shipping.

That sounds similar to what I did. I contacted Goodwinds.com, sent an email asking about gobar rods, and the guy knew what I was talking about! I got rods cut to length, plus little vinyl end covers that work perfectly. I'll measure my rods if you're interested.
Slowest builder on the forum. These things take time. Apparently.

I tried the bamboo stakes years ago, some worked, but most didn't, they hold memory.
I bought my fiberlgass rods from Goodwinds. But I also got some rods from Home Depot, they are used to hold flags, 4 ft length for like $2 and you get a little stiffer rod if you want.

If this question had been posed in the winter, it would be dead easy to find four-foot fiberglass driveway stakes. The prices are very modest, judging by those I saw and bought a couple of years ago. Warm weather, I don't know if they're on the shelves.
