bass uke

Post by SKBarbour »

Started this after seeing one played on a you tube vid. Checked one out at the local music shop and went from there. The shape comes from the Scott Antes plan and the rest is based on the Ubass developed originally by Owen Jones.

Here's a few pics of the progress I've made on the bass uke. I do have bindings on it now, and the neck is further along also but no current pics yet.

Almost ready to start the finish process. Couldn't resist putting some strings on just to get an idea of the sound I'll get. Bridgge isn't glued down, just the pressure of the strings holding stuff together. Pretty cool sound so far. I can't really get it in tune without having the saddle slot or an actual nut but I had to hear what it sounds like.

I never did post the finished pics here. I am pleased with how it sounds, better plugged in than played acoustically. It's fine for around the house, but in a setting with other instruments it definitely has to be plugged in. So here are some pics and a video of a friend playing it in a little backyard jam.http://youtu.be/GzA2abfcfmM

Really cool, I like those big black bass strings.
