The violin mold idea gives me another idea to make the inside mold work well for ukeleles. Cut out a notch for the heel block and the tail block to fit into. Yep you could make it just like a traditional violin inside mold. My sides were just one piece of wood, so I had to glue one side at a time :D
I just finished pore filling (I pore fill with egg whites) the uke. I would post a pic, but there really isn't much to see.

I have 7 chickens at home, so I may try to do an egg white pore fill.

The egg white method is fool proof, all you do is put some egg whites in a bowl, dip a piece of 220 wet or dry in, and wet sand with egg whites in small areas. Works great and it's non toxic and organic.

I have questions!
How did John know that Oval used an inside mold? (can I call you Oval?)
Can you post a picture of the mold? I've never seen one.
I have got to start building scrapaleles too. They seem like a great, fun way to practice a number of skills related to guitar.
Also, I wish to become a bad ukulele player.

I had the same question, but I believe if you look at Oval Soundhole's first post with the photograph you can see that the sides are clamped to a thin profile of the body on the inside.
Oval Soundhole, what is that mold made from, thick cardboard? More scrap wood?

The inside mold is made from 1 1/2 inch mdf (two 3/4" pices glued together) It is the almost the shape of the body, but slightly smaller to account for the sides.
BTW, you can call me oval, oval soundhole, or Brian. I prefer Brian though :D

Brian it is, then. And I think I see a Uke mold in my future (eying some 3/4" MDF).
