Using radius sanding bar

Post by jjadamson »

I've made a 15foot radius sanding bar to shape the kerfed lining for the arch of the back. Is it wise to use the radius bar to glue the rear bracing? I will have to glue one brace at a time. Is that ok. Any tips on using the sanding bar would be helpful. Thanks. John A

You can use it as a gluing caul.

I have not used one to sand the rims or kerfling. Are your rims already profiled for the correct shape on the back?

I did exactly that... I made sanding bars/gluing cauls and used them for both. Yes again, one brace glued at a time. It worked out well. I decided to take my time and not worry about when I would finish the guitar so It didn't bother me to glue one or two braces a day. Good luck...

Definitely use the radiused bar as a caul to glue the braces (make 2 and u can glue 2 braces simultaneously). You can also use it to sand the radius into the rear braces, if they're not already radiused.

Take your time and have fun!
