Martin A-frame bracing

Post by jasonjeremiah »

I'm building a guitar using one of Martin's A-frame neck blocks. I'm just wondering, do the braces that slide into the a-frame slots of the neck block need to be glued to the neck block when the top is attached or do they just slide in?

Did you get A-frame bracing from Martin?

When I bought my kit, they sent an A-frame (mortise & tenon) block but regular x-bracing. I had to cut off part of the block where the A-frame passes through to make it work.

Also check the height of the top of the neck in relation to the top of the block & the body top to make sure it will work. In my case, I had to increase the length of the slot for the bolt along with enlarging the countersink. Here's a link:

John,

I bought my kit from Guitar Maker's Connection (GMC) at Martin.

At the time, they told me that they could supply a mortise & tenon neck with accompanying block but they couldn't supply the A-frame bracing - only the original X-bracing.

...unless I misunderstood them.
