John, that's the Robo-sander, it's basically a pattern sander, srewmac sells them, works pretty good, no need to "smoosh" brace into jig to to achieve radius like some other systems.

Re: Sneak Peek at No. 2
The robo sander is cool. I have been using a plane and a couple of radius disks to radius my braces, but your setup looks a lot easier.
It will be interesting to hear yours and others views on cutting or spitting braces. I just use my band saw when making braces. I do trim the brace wood so that I end up with the braces cut on quarter, but I guess that not splitting could leave me with run out.

I think you can get the best price on the "Robo-Sander" direct from inventor:

John, you raise an interesting question. I have always wondered about that myself. I find it easier to just cut it on a saw. I mean, as soon as you start carving and sanding, you can get runout as you modify the split to fit the shape you demand, how is that different than just cutting on a band saw and doing the same? I guess I have just never understood that, and would love an explanation.

Yeah, I like my Robo Sander too, use it all the time, and did shape my braces the last time with it too. As a pattern sander, I find I am not getting an exact copy of my template, it sands a little shallower than the follower wheel.

Kevin...I wonder if that depends on how tight you compress the rubber when you tighten down to hold the sand paper? IT will expand a little..just a thought.

Notched the X-braces, working on scalloping them now.

Mr. Bagwill, that would be a reciprocating chisel, Hooks up to my Foredom flex-shaft from a prior, now de-funct hobby of mine, jewelry making.
