Sound hole placement/dimensions for Martin 000?

Post by nkwak »

I'm building a 14 fret /24.9" scale 000 from scratch with no templates. Could anyone tell me what size and distance from the neck joint to plot the sound hole for ? I already have 1/4" X bracing with a small maple bridge plate and a 24.9" scale neck/fretboard ready to go. I used a Larrivee OM to create a rough template to follow for the body outline. I know it's apples and oranges, but it just hit me that the Larrivee has a completely different scale length (25.5") so the sound hole location is completely different. Please help!

a good rule of thumb is to start with the fretboard
the end of the fretboard should be about 1/8 in from the soundhole.
measure 14 fret to the end of the fretboard then ad the 1/8 in that is the top of the sound hole and that should be 3 7/8 in in diameter

Thanks, John. I should be fine then. I have lots of room for error.
