Ken, I'm doing scale length to plan, 24.75" and 14 frets clear. really debated about a 12 fretter or not, guess I'll start another one. :)

I started fitting the neck and doing some initial shaping of the heel and headstock, but nothing much has changed here.

I dont spray my finish, I brush it. I can not envision how to do it without spraying. Can you elaborate?

Tony, I did the burst on my LP using the approach that James lays out. Make sure you have no glue or anything that would prohibit the wood from absorbing the dye or tint as you'll have light spots, and with no way to spray, you'd have a tough go making those spots opaque. The downside of this approach is you really can't back. Once that color goes down, it will be staying down unless you do a lot of sanding to get it off. With a sprayer, you could shoot a few coats of clear, then shoot your burst, and as John noted, sand back to the clear if you don't like what you got.
