12 string dreadnought top/brace voicing

Post by brmoon »

Hello,
I'm building a 12 string for a friend and plan to use Sitka and Indian Rosewood. I have a general question regarding top thicknessing and bracing. Depending on the stiffness, what do you suggest for top thickness parameters? Also, bracing pattern options and dimensions? Thanks.

I build a 12 string using my 6 string body plans. I had to modify the headstock design to put in the extra tuners. My bracing pattern was the same pattern I used for a 6 string. I did make them just a touch taller. +1 mm. My top thickness was calculated the same way I do six string guitars. Generally falling between 2.5 mm to 2.8 mm.

There are 12 string guitar plans you can buy on line. I think they are worth it for a first 12 string as they help with a lot of new measurements over a 6 string.

The only thing I do is a larger plate and an extra tone bar
