Pre slotted fretboard

Post by Zen »

I purchased a couple of pre slotted fret boards on line and when they arrived I noticed that the fret slots appeared quite wide compared to some others I had seen, None of the fret wire I have here would fit properly and in fact it was way too thin and just rattled around the slot.
I contacted the seller and heres part of his answer below.

Quote:
I use a 0.60mm saw blade to open slots, so fretwire should have a tang width of 0.65mm-0.70mm. In case your frets are 0.55mm tang width, you need to use a fret crimper, and then glue them.
Kind regards.
etc

My question to the forum is: Are the slots cut too wide on these boards or if not then what fret wire would suit? How do the measurements he quoted stand up in comparison to what you guys would use?

Thanks

If my math is correct that should be a .024" slot and should work with most of the fretwire I have here. Measure the slots with a feeler gauge and see if they are that dimension or not.
You never know what you are capable of until you actually try....
