I thought about that and the idea kind of scared me.

Ifelt the same about bridges until I made a couple.

I have seen the neck blanks.

The joint is what scares me the most!

You can very easily cut a mortise and tenon bolt on joint with a handsaw, or bandsaw, or table saw. I have done it all 3 ways.
I now use a router and jig but it is not necessary. I've made my neck block in two halves, cutting a mortise before gluing the two halves together. The tenon and cheeks can be cut to the correct angle for your relief too in one pass.

The key for me making my own necks was making this jig to get the scarf joint right:

The rest was just having the right tools to do the carving.

I don't use the scarf joint but agree Kathy did a great job. There are a number of good dove tail jigs out there. Once you master making the joint you can make the neck.
Practice with Poplar. Get enough to make 3 necks , by then you will know if you can do it. My money is that you can.

there is a fallacy that you have to have CNC to make things , when in reality you can can do highly accurate work with some simple jigs. CNC is great if you want to make the exact same thing but when you are making custom guitars , necks are a specialty for the client. Making a neck to fit that person will make your guitar a stand out.
