Re: Mahogany Size Two
Darren,
You haven't posted in a few weeks on this one. Question on your maple neck.
Is that a stacked heel, or did you use a solid heel block? If stacked, how did it come out?
I have one glued up and can't tell yet how it's going to look until I square it up.

Re: Mahogany Size Two
Kevin, I had the heel rough cut but I had a router mishap on the headstock, so it is basically firewood. I could have probably saved it but there have been enough mistakes covered up already, I felt like enough was enough. I really liked the headplate, too.
Both maple necks I've done were flatsawn, which does help to hide the joint if you can get the grain orientation right. As I said earlier I'm going to try laminate one next, when i can get around to it.
Life has been busy, but I hope to get the neck for this one wrapped up and then start the finishing. Pictures soon. :)

Re: Mahogany Size Two
Not much shop time lately. I thought I'd be playing this one by now. So here is where I'm at: neck almost the right shape, I need to work on the heelcap symmetry, and then sanding sanding and more sanding.

Finally getting warm enough to spray here in the great white north.
I'd guess I'm about half way through my coats:
It looks quite different from my last post.

Re: Mahogany Size Two
thanks John. fingers are crossed that I don't sand through it... first lacquer attempt, first burst attempt, probably not a good combination.

Re: Mahogany Size Two
Instead of cutting the grass this weekend I set this little guy up:
A few things still to do but has been strung up for about 24 hours and is sounding good. :) Very Happy.
