Has anyone read both sets? If so, which would you select if you could have only one?

I have read both sets. If you want the zen or feel for the design of a responsive guitar choose Somogyi, if you want science, engineering and physics for the design of a responsive guitar go with Gore/Gilet. In terms of the set the Gore design book is very math and model based, very well done with practical summaries for each chapter. Their build book is very straight forward, practical and well documented for both SS and Classical. It also include a few full size guitar plans.

I liked both sets and I am not degrading the feel aspect of Somogyi's responsive design book as it is very informative. I am an engineer so if I had to choose one set I would pick Gore/Gilet.

to me Somogyi gets a little long winded.

I'm an engineer as well so that may bias my perspective.......but I have both sets of books and the Gore/Gillet books are more valuable to me.

Johnnpar and Darryl,

Would you recommend that the non-engineer types pass on the Gore/Gilet and opt for the Somogyi?
For example, would a guy like me, who needed four tries to pass two semesters of high school algebra,
benefit more from Somogyi and his 'less technical' approach.

John Hall, long winded is good when the elevator breaks down...........

Been acquiring guitar books since the 70's and have both the Somogyi and the Gore/Gilet sets. I think the Gore/Gilet are the best that I have seen. There may be better out there or they may not be every one's cup of tea. If I could only keep one set out of all I have it would be the Gore/Gilet.
