A Good Guitar Story

Post by Stray Feathers »

I find this a powerful story so will share it--but it will take you a few minutes. James Keelaghan is (I think) one of Canada's best songwriters. One of his best is a piece called Kiri's Piano, about the Canadian internment of Japanese Canadians during World War II. The first link is a younger Keelaghan talking about the writing of the song, and performing the song. In another clip, some years later, he speaks of reactions he has had to the song. One occurred after a performance in Denmark. A second was after a performance in Oregon. I won't reveal anything, but the incident in Oregon is a remarkable account of how a guitar, and its role in history, become part of the story.
