Posting to help maybe one more person think through their finishing work area. I have learned the slow way to not keep dinging her up. I am finding it really important to reset the shop for each task instead of periodically. At this point, I'm considering replacing the floors with mattresses but that seems extreme. :D

Let's do this in increments. Put all the tools away. Carpet the benchtop. Fill the shop refrigerator with libation.

Kick the cats/dogs/etc out of the area.

Darn cat hair in the clear coat.

My two pussycats are banned from my work area. Safer for them, too.

Know what you mean, I had to ban 3 mutts from my shop, needless to say they weren't to happy about it...

I established kitty exile about ten minutes after I dripped epoxy resin on the back of my little fella, forty years ago. Better for my friends that they aren't in the shop.

I generally keep critters out of my shop as well. Every once in a great while Parker, my oldest kitty, will visit briefly, just to say Hi and Bye. I'm disabled, so Isabella, my service dog, is allowed in the shop when I'm having a bad day. But, she's trained to stay in her "area" unless I need her.

Beautiful dog, Diane.

Most of my work takes place in the basement in the winter. None of the critters (3 dogs, 3 cats) come down there.

Humidity gets out of control about this time of year so work usually stops. This year, I’ve moved operations into my guitar/fly tying/etc room on the main level, where animals aren’t allowed due to their penchant for getting into things.

I will stop and pet a dog that wanders by though. I’m prone to pet a cat if I walk out of the room as well.

I was applying some finish to a piece of walnut veneer for a pickguard when I noticed a present from Fuzzy the big white cat.
