How about a Benjamin Cutaway. I have never handled one, but it sure looks like it would work well for playing up high, and would be pretty simple to retrofit onto a guitar. Just bend one piece of wood - could be very thin because it is not too big - and start cutting a slot until it fits. Wouldn't have to bind it or purfle it (is that a word?)
