Big Sitka Spruce
I mentioned this in a thread about tops in the "Guitars" forum. Here is a photo of me beside a 1000+ year-old (it has been cored to determine its age) Sitka Spruce at Windy Bay in Haida Gwaii (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands) off the west coast of British Columbia. This is the place where the Haida people took a stand against rampant logging, and, after a long period of negotiation, resulted in the establishment of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve ("Reserve" because the Haida have never ceded title to this land.)

Here's a big spruce in Washington. Probably not much guitar-grade wood in there, as the growth lines would be HUGE. Life is just too easy in Washington.
