Between guitar projects
Spent some time at the lathe Saturday making throwing spin tops for my 2 grandsons, son-in-law, and for me! Did any of you play with these when you were a boy? I did!
Eucalyptus wood, with a thin CA finish. They all spin!!!!! I had it going on Saturday, then yesterday I went to spin one, and I lost the technique and couldn't do it for the life of me!
So I'll have to practice again and get it down so I can show the boys how to do it. :)

I never had a top. Those are completely and utterly cool! You must be very good with the lathe to make them so balanced. Now I want to run out and learn to use a friend's lathe to make tops.

Re: Between guitar projects
Diane, I'm having alot of fun with these. Just glued up another block of walnut and maple, thinner maple strips.
Just about any wood will work, I've even made them from cedar and they spin fine.
Go for it!

Re: Between guitar projects
Kevin, I would try to make one, but I don't have a lathe and don't know how to use one.
However, my better half just mentioned raiding Badger Lumber's rafter storage area next week, and this time bringing the spotlight so we can see better. He thought we should get more wood, as well as a Safe-T planer and larger drill press for my NEXT GUITAR...apparently it's a given that I'm starting another guitar. :-)
