STUPID!!!!

Post by hummingbird »

I was ripping braces on my table saw at wierd angles trying to follow the grain of the wood, don't even ask. I was not thinking safety. It happened so fast, the wood just caught in the blade and backfired with my finger. Could have been alot worse. Let this remind you to be safe out there.

Ouch for sure. Did the wood do that, or did it pull you into the blade?
Sure glad for you that it wasn't any worse.

When working on my first I was using my table saw and grabbed a waste stick to push a small piece through the blade (blade was close to the fence). I pushed it right through cutting through the end of the stick as I went and it came out the back of the blade.

What happened next was so fast I'm can't say for sure what happened.......but I think I let the end of the stick drop down into the spinning blade. You couldn't have hit my harder with a hammer! The end of the stick was square and the blade jammed it right back through the heel of my hand peeling the heel of my hand back toward my wrist. It hit so hard my elbow went tingly (like when you hit your funny bone, but much worse) and I got light-headed.

Here it is a few days after it happened. The butterfly tape hides how far down it peeled the heel of my hand.......I had to push it back up off my wrist. That white chunk in the middle is the corner of a piece of cartiledge (or gristle or whatever it's called). I was worried about that but as it heeled, it pulled back under the skin.

That's a nice one Darryl.

It was the blade that hit but from what happened to Darryl I can see that the wood can cause some serious damage too.

Anybody else have any injury pics that we can all learn from?

The strange thing I sometime do dangerous things, knowing "Herman, you better do this not this way". And still I do so. After that it goes wrong. And in the end I call myself "Stupid". Hmmm.

One of my friends lost a finger at the tablesaw. Be careful you all.
